Buckerfield's Head Office in Duncan, BC is seeking to hire an experienced Human Resources Manager with a strong background in Industrial Psychology to join our dynamic and growing team.

This role requires a strong understanding of human behaviour, organizational dynamics and change management principles. The ideal candidate will possess a degree or master’s degree in Industrial Psychology, or a related field, and demonstrate expertise in training and development, recognition and rewards programs, workplace safety standards and overall human capital development. This role is crucial in driving a positive organizational culture, improving employee engagement, and fostering a high-performance environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the General Manager, the incumbent will manage and oversee the following aspects of the Human Resources department:

  • Human Capital Development:

  • Design and implement strategic programs to develop talent at all levels of the organization.

  • Lead initiatives that enhance employee skills, competencies, and career growth through effective training and development programs.

  • Collaborate with department heads to identify key learning and development needs and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

 

  • Training & Development:

  • Oversee the creation and delivery of training programs tailored to individual and organizational needs.

  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of training initiatives and make data-driven improvements to ensure continuous learning and skill enhancement.

  • Develop leadership development programs to nurture existing and emerging leaders within the organization.

  • Partner with key departments to establish appropriate internal change communications strategies and lead these initiatives from concept through to execution.

 

  • Recognition & Rewards Programs:

  • Design and implement innovative recognition and rewards programs to motivate employees, promote a positive workplace, and drive performance.

  • Ensure that reward systems are fair, transparent, and aligned with both individual and team contributions.

  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of these programs and make necessary adjustments to support a culture of appreciation and recognition.

 

  • Workplace Safety Standards:

  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and best practices.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

  • Coordinate safety training programs to educate employees on safe work practices and emergency procedures.

  • Stay updated on industry-specific safety standards and incorporate them into organizational policies.

 

  • Culture & Employee Engagement:

  • Lead initiatives to improve organizational culture, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure that HR strategies are aligned with the company’s mission, vision, values and business objectives.

  • Conduct employee engagement surveys and use the results to implement initiatives that drive employee satisfaction and retention.

 

  • Performance Management:

  • Oversee the performance review process, ensuring that employees receive timely and constructive feedback.

  • Work with managers to address performance issues and identify solutions to improve employee productivity and engagement.

 

  • Compliance & HR Policies:

  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial employment laws and regulations while developing HR policies that reflect best practices.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and regulatory changes.

  • Lead and oversee various aspects of the Human Resources department including but not limited to recruitment, selection, onboarding, offboarding, payroll, compensation, and benefits administration.

  • Other duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned by the General Manager.

 

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial psychology, Human Resources Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of extensive human resources management experience.
  • Proven experience in human capital development, with a strong focus on training, development, recognition, and rewards programs and workplace safety standards.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve organizational culture and employee engagement through onboarding, training and development programs.
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to think strategically and align HR initiatives with business objectives.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong background in psychological principles related to employee behavior, motivation, and organizational culture.
  • Experience with workplace safety compliance and implementing best practices.
  • Experience with change management and fostering a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to use data analytics to measure the impact of HR programs.
  • Project management skills, including estimating effort and time, identifying deliverables and milestones and creating and managing schedules.
  • Demonstrates success turning business learning requirements into training/education programs with proven results and organizational impact.
  • Knowledge and experience working with employment law, including but not limited to BC Employment Standards Act and Regulation, WorkSafeBC, Workers Compensation Act, Human Rights Code, etc. will be seen as an asset.

 

Availability:

  • 40 hours a week, minimum
  • Days of work are typically Monday to Friday, however days and hours may vary and include weekends and statutory holidays, from time to time
