Senior Accountant

Buckerfield's Head Office in Duncan, BC is seeking to hire a Senior Accountant to assist our accounting team in the organization and administration of the financial operations of the company.

Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the General Manager and Controller, the incumbent will assist and support the Company with planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operations and functions consistent with the short-, medium-, and long-term goals, objectives and budgets of the Company as a whole.

The Senior Accountant will:

  • Prepare internal financial statements, reports and projections,
  • Prepare and post journal entries,
  • Monitor cash flows,
  • Review and sign weekly cheques,
  • Prepare, assist and review full month-end working papers in coordination with Accounts Receivable, and other members of the accounting team and management when required, while reporting to the General Manager and Controller,
  • Prepare monthly GST, PST, and Corporate Tax payments/returns as required, and ensure timely compliance with regulatory reporting and tax remittance requirements,
  • Assist with ad hoc projects,
  • Evaluate, specify, document, and manage internal control processes at various operational locations,
  • Assist with year-end reviews and navigate inquiries as required,
  • Participate in regular performance reviews and be provided with constructive feedback, and assistance in evaluating progress in meeting the requirements of the position,
  • Provide support and assistance to all Buckerfields locations in a polite and courteous manner,
  • May be required to travel and provide additional support to other Buckerfields positions and locations, from time to time,
  • Other duties, tasks and projects as assigned by the General Manager or Controller.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • A degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a related discipline, will be considered an asset, however, a combination of both education and experience will be considered
  • A CPA designation will be considered an asset
  • Experience with daily, monthly, quarterly, and annually accounting cycles
  • Knowledge and experience with computer software, including Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, Power BI, etc.), SAGE 300, Counterpoint, MS Business Central, etc.
  • Communicates politely and helpfully using proper verbal and written communication skills and maintains a high level of confidentiality
  • Honest, trustworthy and acts in good faith on behalf of the company
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, think critically, and make rational decisions

Availability:

  • 40 hours a week, minimum
  • Days of work are typically Monday to Friday, however days and hours may vary and include weekends and statutory holidays, from time to time
